FBR reports 17.6% increase in 2025: More than 5.9 million people filed income tax returns

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that there has been a significant increase in the number of tax return filers in the year 2025. According to the statistics, 5.9 million returns have been submitted till October 31, 2025, which is about 17.6 percent more than the previous year.

According to the statement, this year 3.6 million taxpayers also paid taxes along with their returns, which has seen an increase of 18.6 percent compared to the previous year. The FBR further said that an additional Rs9 billion in taxes was submitted by individual taxpayers, which has increased the volume of individual tax collection from Rs60 billion to Rs69 billion.

The agency is expecting thousands more returns to be submitted by the last minute.

According to the FBR, no extension has been given to the general date for filing returns under the instructions of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif; however, if any taxpayer faces any difficulty, he can contact the concerned field formation and get an extension.

According to tax experts, this trend is a result of increased public confidence and improvement in the digital filing system, which is a positive sign for the overall revenue targets of the FBR.
