Lahore: As the agricultural season progresses, Pakistani farmers are keeping a close eye on the fluctuating prices of essential fertilizers, with recent market trends indicating variations across different brands and types. Urea and DAP, which are crucial for crop nutrition, continue to see daily adjustments in their rates in local markets.
According to recent data, Sona Urea is generally seen in the range of PKR 4,600 to PKR 4,800 per 50 kg bag, while Engro Urea is also maintaining a similar price. For diammonium phosphate (DAP), a key nutrient for early crop growth, prices are reportedly hovering between PKR 11,400 and PKR 12,100 for a 50-kg bag, with minor variations among brands such as Sona DAP, Engro DAP, and FFC DAP.
Farmers face the challenge of sourcing fertilizers at competitive rates, as market prices often differ from government-controlled prices. This disparity requires constant vigilance for farmers aiming to effectively manage input costs. Other fertilizers, such as NPK, SSP, and various specialty products, also reflect dynamic prices.
Agricultural experts recommend that farmers stay updated with the latest market rates from multiple sources and consider purchasing in bulk wherever possible to mitigate the impact of daily price fluctuations. The government’s efforts to stabilize fertilizer supply and ensure fair pricing remain a key concern for the agricultural sector, which is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy.
