Finance Act 2025: FBR allowed to access IP data of suspected taxpayers

Islamabad : The Finance Act 2025 has given the FBR significant powers, with a significant development being the power to directly access citizens’ Internet Protocol data.

The Act amends Section 38B of the Sales Tax Act 1990, allowing the FBR to obtain digital data of suspects from Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other telecom entities.

Experts say the amendment will help bring transparency to the digital economy and make the tax net more effective. The move is aimed at monitoring individuals and businesses that may be involved in tax evasion through online transactions or e-commerce.
