President Asif Ali Zardari conferred Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military on General Syed Amir Raza, Commander of the National Strategic Command, in a special ceremony held at the Presidency, Islamabad, on Tuesday.
The award was given in recognition of General Amir Raza’s distinguished services, professional abilities and his contributions to the defence and security of Pakistan.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, chiefs of the armed forces and senior civil and military officials.
General Amir Raza was promoted to the rank of four-star general in July and appointed as Commander of the National Strategic Command. Earlier, he was serving as the Chief of General Staff.
The approval for the award by the President was given on July 31, ahead of the ceremony. According to the Presidential Secretariat, the approval for conferring Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military on General Amir Raza was given after he assumed his current responsibility.
General Amir Raza has also been awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz Military and Sitara-e-Bisalat.
The National Strategic Command has been entrusted to General Amir Raza in the wake of recent changes in the country’s top defence command structure. With his appointment, the post was established as a four-star command.
General Amir Raza’s services were formally acknowledged by being conferred with the award in the presence of top civil and military leadership at a ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. During the ceremony, the President presented him with the Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military.
