The government has adjusted prices of petroleum products with a cut in petrol price and an increase in high-speed diesel. The new prices will be implemented from August 12, 2026.
The price of petrol has been reduced by Rs 1.70 per litre, after which it was fixed at Rs 325.92 per litre, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division.
The price of high-speed diesel, on the other hand, has been raised by Rs 1.39 per litre. After the increase, the new price of diesel will be Rs 382.25 per liter.
The new rates will provide some welcome relief for consumers on petrol, but the rise in the cost of diesel could impact on freight vehicles and other diesel-powered activities.
As it is widely used in trucks, buses, agricultural machinery and heavy vehicles generally, the diesel price change is seen as significant for transportation cost. The present rise is, however, limited.
