The issue of PTI founder Imran Khan’s medical examination and transfer to Shifa International Hospital has become the center of political and legal debate. Tehreek-e-Insaf has filed a contempt of court petition against the government. The party maintains that the court order was not fully implemented.
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has rejected this position. According to him, the administration followed the instructions of the Supreme Court. He said that Imran Khan’s medical examination was also conducted as per the court order.
According to Tarar, Imran Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for medical examination. His sister and concerned doctors were also present there. The Information Minister termed the initial reports as satisfactory.
The controversy came to light after the Supreme Court’s interim order of August 18. The court had directed Imran Khan to be shifted to Shifa International Hospital. The government also approached the court for a review of this order.
Later, Imran Khan was shifted back to Adiala Jail after a medical examination. The government cited security concerns for this decision.
The PTI has taken legal action on this move. The party says that the government did not act in accordance with the spirit of the court order. The PTI has requested the court to take action on the matter.
On the other hand, the government is emphasizing on avoiding making the health issue a political controversy. Atta Tarar also said that politics should not be involved in medical matters.
The matter is now before the court again. The upcoming proceedings will make it clear in what context the court views the government’s stance on implementing the court order and the PTI’s objections.
