Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, while speaking at the OIC Parliamentary Union meeting held in Azerbaijan, said that the agreement was not reached as a result of any pressure or coercion, but rather reflects the resistance and perseverance of the Iranian nation.
In his speech, he said that recent diplomatic developments have proven that progress can be made through negotiations while adhering to national sovereignty and principled positions. According to him, the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding is an important part of this process.
Qalibaf said that Iran believes that the countries of the region should play their own role for their own security and stability. He stressed that external interference often increases complications; therefore, solutions to regional problems should be sought through mutual cooperation and trust among the countries within the region.
He added that Iran is keen to develop relations with its neighboring countries and other regional partners. According to him, cooperation based on mutual respect, the principle of sovereignty and common interests can become the basis for lasting peace in the region.
The Iranian speaker described the Islamabad MoU as an important diplomatic development, saying that it has sent a message that despite tensions and conflicts, the doors of negotiations can be kept open. According to him, this path can prove to be more effective for stability and development in the region.
Political observers say that this statement has come at a time when various diplomatic initiatives are underway in the Middle East and the Gulf region. In recent months, many countries have prioritized negotiations and diplomatic contacts to resolve conflicts.
According to experts, Iran’s emphasis on a local role for regional security has been an important part of its foreign policy. The current statement also reflects the same thinking under which Tehran attaches importance to regional cooperation and respect for sovereignty.
The participants of the meeting also discussed various regional challenges, economic cooperation and issues facing the Muslim world. Observers say that such forums provide an opportunity for member countries to understand each other’s positions and formulate a common strategy.
According to analysts, if regional countries further promote mutual cooperation and diplomatic contacts, not only political tensions can be reduced but also new opportunities can be created in the economic and trade sectors. Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf’s speech is being seen in the broader context where regional cooperation is being described as the key to future stability.
