The murder case of a seven-year-old girl in Sargodha has taken a new turn where, according to the police, the main accused in the case was killed in an alleged police encounter. However, the incident has raised several questions, especially about the accused’s escape from police custody and the incident that took place later.
According to police officials, the main accused was accused of allegedly trying to rape the minor girl and later killing her. The girl’s body was recovered from a shop where she had gone for shopping on Monday.
On Tuesday, the police had arrested several people, including the main accused. However, the police later said that the main accused had escaped from custody. On Wednesday morning, the Crime Control Department (CCD) claimed that the accused was present along with three of his associates while acting on a tip-off.
According to the CCD FIR, when the police team reached the spot, the accused allegedly opened fire. Police said that after retaliatory action and a brief exchange of fire, one person was found dead, who was identified as the main accused.
Police claim that the accused was killed in the firing of his accomplices while the others escaped. A policeman was also reported to have been injured.
After the incident, the police shifted the body of the accused to the hospital for a postmortem and started further legal proceedings. On the other hand, the other arrested accused are still in police custody, and their investigation is underway.
The most attention in this case is focused on the question of how the accused escaped from police custody. The authorities have not released complete details in this regard, due to which various aspects of the incident are being debated.
The Crime Control Department has been active in anti-crime operations in the past few years, however, some human rights organizations have also expressed reservations about some of its alleged police encounters.
Various institutions, including the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, have in the past stressed that all incidents of police encounters should be investigated transparently and impartially to maintain the rule of law and public trust.
The Sargodha case has gained significant public attention because it involves the death of a minor girl. The local population and civic groups want a thorough investigation into all aspects of the case and that those responsible be punished according to the law.
According to analysts, the direction of the investigation may change after the death of the main accused, but interrogation of other detained suspects can play a role in revealing important facts of the case. Meanwhile, police officials say that they are continuing to investigate the remaining aspects of the case and all legal requirements will be fulfilled.
The incident is not only being seen as a serious criminal case, but it has also re-emerged in the debate on the actions of law enforcement agencies, monitoring of detained suspects and police encounters.
