Islamabad: On May 1, 2025, Labor Day is celebrated around the world, including Pakistan, with the aim of paying tribute to the sacrifices of laborers and renewing the protection of their rights. Rallies, seminars, and protests will be held across the country, with workers demanding better wages, safer working conditions, and social security.
In Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Quetta, and other cities, labor unions and social organizations will hold rallies in which a large number of women and children will participate. The protests will demand a stop to the privatization process and the implementation of labor laws.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, in their messages, reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of the workers. They emphasized the need to prioritize the provision of a safe and healthy working environment and make labor laws at par with global standards.
The Sindh government declared a public holiday across the province on the occasion of Labor Day, under which all government offices, educational institutions, and banks remained closed. Similarly, the State Bank of Pakistan also declared a bank holiday across the country.
