LPG Prices Set to Ignite New Wave of Devaluation as Rates Hit Rs 304/kg

As the government notifies a record-breaking increase in LPG rates for April, industry experts warn that the worst may be yet to come. Following OGRA’s decision to fix the new price at Rs 304.11 per kg, Irfan Khokhar, Chairman of the LPG Distributors Association, warned that regional instability and the Middle East crisis could push prices even higher.

Khokhar expressed grave concerns that the per-kilogram price of LPG could eventually touch Rs 500 if the international market continues its volatile streak. “We are looking at a potential increase of Rs 90 to Rs 100 more in the coming weeks,” he stated, adding that commercial cylinders could see hikes of up to Rs 4,500.

This sudden surge of Rs 923 per domestic cylinder is predicted to trigger a “storm of inflation” across the country. As transport and production costs rise due to fuel adjustments, the price of basic food items and essential services is expected to follow suit, further squeezing the purchasing power of the average Pakistani citizen.
