Minimum monthly wage of laborers set at Rs 40,000 in Punjab, notification issued

Provincial Minister for Labor and Manpower Faisal Ayub Khokhar has announced that the minimum monthly wage of workers in Punjab has been fixed at Rs 40,000 and a formal notification has also been issued in this regard.

According to Faisal Ayub Khokhar, the workers will be paid a minimum salary of Rs 40,000 for 26 days of work per month. He clarified that the wage of a worker working eight hours a day is Rs 1,538.46.

The minister said that the field teams of the Labor Welfare Department have been instructed to strictly implement the notification and there will be a crackdown against the institutions that do not pay the minimum wage.

He added that the Punjab government is giving top priority to the welfare of workers. It may be recalled that a proposal to increase the minimum wage was presented on the occasion of the provincial budget.  In the same budget, a 10 percent increase in the salaries of government employees from grade 1 to 22 and a 5 percent increase in pensions across the province were also announced.
