Nepra’s new electricity package: Relief for domestic consumers, historic concessions for industry and agriculture

In connection with the fluctuation in electricity prices, NEPRA has officially approved a reduction of 88 paisa per unit under fuel price adjustment and an increase of 33 paisa per unit under quarterly adjustment. While this decision will provide minor relief to domestic consumers in December, the overall burden will also increase over the three months.

According to the decision, consumers will bear an additional burden of Rs 6.67 billion from the quarterly adjustment. The fuel adjustment relief will not be applicable to K-Electric consumers.

Big announcement for industry and agriculture

On the recommendation of the government, NEPRA has approved a concessional rate of Rs 22.98 per unit for the use of additional electricity.

Earlier, the industrial sector paid Rs 34 and the agricultural sector Rs 38 per unit of additional electricity.

According to the Power Division:

Average price reduction of Rs 7 on 100 additional units in agriculture

Average price reduction of Rs 5 on 1000 additional units in industry

This concession will continue for three years.

Federal Energy Minister Owais Leghari said that the concessional tariff will increase employment opportunities, increase production, and accelerate industrial investment.

He added that this package is of special importance for data centers, crypto mining, and greenfield industries.

Energy analysts believe that the concessional package will stimulate short-term investment.
