Dushanbe: Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan will not compromise on its share of water under any circumstances. He was addressing an international conference on “Glacier Conservation” in the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe.

The Prime Minister strongly rejected India’s decision to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, saying that it is a condemnable move that violates international laws and regulations.

Shahbaz Sharif said that there are 13,000 glaciers in Pakistan and half of the country’s water is obtained from these glaciers, but due to climate change, these glaciers are melting rapidly, which is a major threat to Pakistan’s water security.

He added that Pakistan faced severe floods and torrential rains in 2022, even though the country’s share in global greenhouse gas emissions is less than 0.5%.

The prime minister appealed to developed countries to increase investment in early warning systems and environmental protection measures in developing countries.
