Islamabad: In his message on the occasion of International Press Freedom Day, Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has appreciated the responsible role of journalists and media and said that in a democratic society, the role of journalism should be based on public good, truth, morality, and freedom.
The prime minister paid tribute to the services of Pakistani media towards national interests and said that the government is playing a strong role for the protection of journalists, their financial interests, and the resolution of problems. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and its subsidiaries are continuously working for the welfare of media workers.
Shehbaz Sharif stressed that in order to protect freedom of expression, it is necessary to protect the media from being used for fake news, lies, foreign agendas, and political interests.
The prime minister also urged the international community to unite to protect the rights and freedom of expression of journalists. He reiterated the government’s commitment to the promotion of journalism and the welfare of journalists in Pakistan.
