Senate passes 27th Constitutional Amendment with two-thirds majority

The Senate has passed the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill presented by Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar with a two-thirds majority.

During the session of the Upper House, when the Federal Law Minister presented the bill, the Chairman Senate began the process of clause-by-clause approval and instructed the supporting members to stand on their seats.

As soon as the constitutional amendment was presented, noise started from the opposition benches. Opposition members tore copies of the agenda and protested strongly, while despite Senator Rubina Naz’s insistence, PTI Senator Saifullah Abro did not initially participate in the protest.

However, when the amendment motion was voted on, Senator Saifullah Abro stood in favor of the constitutional amendment. JUI-F Senator Ahmed Khan also voted in favor of the bill.

64 members voted in favor of the 27th Constitutional Amendment in the House, after which the bill was passed with a two-thirds majority.
