Air pollution has once again gripped the capital of Punjab, Lahore. The city recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 329, which is considered extremely dangerous according to global standards. The situation worsened in the morning hours, and the AQI reached 424, which sounded the alarm for citizens.
Pakistan’s economic hub, Karachi, is also in the grip of pollution, where the Air Quality Index was recorded at 174, which falls under the unhealthy category. On the other hand, India’s capital, New Delhi, remained among the “very unhealthy” cities with 276.
Health experts have warned that continuously breathing in such toxic air doubles the risks of heart disease, lung cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and stroke. According to them, this situation can lead to a dangerous health crisis for millions of citizens.
Experts say that vehicle exhaust, factory emissions, construction dust, and the burning of crop residues have created a continuous layer of smog in the air that does not subside for weeks.
