Iran has announced the development of a new mechanism to regulate maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, which will be officially presented soon.
According to Ebrahim Azizi, head of the National Security Commission of the Iranian parliament, under this system, ship traffic will be controlled on specific routes determined by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.
He said that this will be a professional and organised traffic control system that will facilitate commercial ships passing through this route, but in return a special service fee will be charged.
According to the report, under this mechanism, preferential facilities will be provided to commercial ships cooperating with Iran, while certain routes may be restricted for some non-cooperative operators.
According to international experts, the Strait of Hormuz is a very important sea route for the world’s energy and oil transportation, and any new regulatory system could have an impact on global trade.
