Security arrangements have been further increased in the federal capital and Rawalpindi ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Islamabad march on September 27. Instructions have also been issued to close hotels, restaurants and some other business places in Faizabad.
According to police sources, hotels around Faizabad airport have been asked to remain closed. Restaurants and shopkeepers have also been instructed to close their businesses by Friday evening. There are also reports of closure of passenger houses and transport hubs till night.
Traffic arrangements have also been changed on routes coming to Islamabad after the announcement of the march. Citizens may face difficulties in travelling due to obstructions on M-1, GT Road and other important routes. The situation on some routes is constantly changing, so it is important for travellers to get the latest information before departure.
The government has also sought the help of Rangers for security. As per the approval of the Ministry of Interior, Rangers will be deployed in Islamabad and various districts of Punjab from September 20 to October 5. This move has been taken to maintain law and order.
On the other hand, PTI is determined to continue its protest activities. Party Chairman Barrister Gauhar has said that the September 27 march will be peaceful. He is of the opinion that political differences should be resolved through talks.
There is a clear difference in the stance of the government and PTI on the issue of the march. Government circles are referring to security and law and order, while PTI is linking its protest to political and constitutional rights.
Meanwhile, PTI has not yet fully clarified the final arrangements for the march. According to recent reports, the party leadership is in consultation on the route, movement of convoys and other arrangements.
The current situation in the twin cities is having a direct impact on the daily movement of citizens. The travel time may increase due to obstacles and security checks on major highways. The administration is likely to take more steps to maintain law and order.
