Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to postpone the long march scheduled for September 27 and hold it on October 5. According to sources, the party’s political committee meeting agreed to change the date of the protest after reviewing the current situation.
The future of the long march and the political situation were discussed in the meeting. Sources say that the participants supported the proposal to postpone the march for a few days, calling the situation sensitive.
According to sources, the decision will be officially announced after taking Mahmood Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas into confidence. In this regard, it was also agreed to give Chief Minister Sohail Afridi the responsibility of communicating with both leaders.
This development of changing the date of the long march has come at a time when PTI is making statements on the preparations for the protest and the possibility of negotiations with the federal government.
Earlier, PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Secretary Shaukat Yousafzai had said that the party has not taken any decision to end the long march. According to him, PTI is ready for the protest, and the march will be peaceful.
Shaukat Yousafzai had also said that government resources will not be used in the protest. He said that if the federal government holds talks, the decision regarding the long march can be reviewed; however, the protest will not be ended until the demands are met.
The PTI leader had further said that wherever the roads are closed, a sit-in will be held. According to him, the party does not need to remove containers or open roads.
The official announcement of the decision regarding the new date of the long march and further clarification from the party leadership is awaited.
