Water conservation possible through national unity, not political divide: Ahsan Iqbal

Lahore: Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, speaking with media , drew attention to a very serious national issue: water. He said that if an issue of a sensitive and technical nature like water is politicized, not only water security will be affected, but all the provinces will suffer.

He stressed that the issue of interprovincial water sharing should be entrusted to engineers and experts and not to political narratives. According to him, “One province cannot take away the water of another, but if emotions are inflamed, we will not be able to avoid collective loss.

Ahsan Iqbal also highlighted the current environmental situation, saying that this year the rainfall has decreased by 40 percent, and in the coming years we may face serious climatic challenges such as floods and droughts.

According to him, Pakistan is currently on the verge of two major crises, such as food and water security, to deal with which political coordination, scientific strategy, and long-term policymaking have become indispensable.
