Nepra meeting discusses solar energy and off-grid solutions

Islamabad: A meeting organized by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) discussed the promotion of solar energy and off-grid solutions. Representatives of all Discos, K-Electric, Central Power Purchasing Agency and other institutions attended the meeting.

According to a Nepra statement, the meeting discussed various options including time-of-use tariff, net metering, mini and micro off-grid solutions.  The heads of the discos appreciated the efforts of NEPRA and termed the TORs comprehensive and practical.

The statement further said that some stakeholders suggested limiting the off-grid study to only a few discos, however, NEPRA directed all parties to submit their final opinions and data within 7 days.

According to the organization, after the approval of the final TORs, the discos will be instructed to hire consultants and conduct studies. According to NEPRA, the aim of this consultation session is to find sustainable solutions to the challenges faced in the energy sector.
